Let's Paint - Half-Orc Fighter (RPG Mini Painting)

Freek - The Mad Merc

Last Fall I started running a regular D&D game for my partner and some of our friends.  Fast forward several months and my partner has also caught the D&D bug.  They started running their own games a couple months ago and of course I'm a player in one.

Meet Freek: the Half-Orc Fighter.

This is the first PC I've ever painted and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.  He's dramatic and eye catching and I think he fits the idea I had of my character pretty well.

I added some small stones on the edge of his base to help blend it into the sculpted terrain and used my usual combo of baking soda and super glue to fill the gaps.

I primed him in grey and undercoated him with shades of grey.

The paint job was pretty simple.  I decided to make his armor a deep red to contrast with his pale green skin and to also evoke a sort of samurai look.  I think I did a pretty good job with the highlights on his skin especially.  And I really like the way the silver trim made the armor pop.  He's colorful and cool.

Character History

Freek is a Half-Orc.  The offspring of an Orc and a Human.  Disowned by both societies, Freek grew up on his own, never meeting either of his parents.  In the city of Metrolio, Freek learned quickly to fend for himself.  Strength and intimidation became his safety nets and he learned to embrace the fear people had of him, adopting the insults they threw at him as his moniker.

On the streets of the city, Freek was a loner, but would stop to help those worse off than himself, often securing an extra meal for a vagabond or chasing off street thugs.  His talents led him to fight rings where he quickly earned a reputation for his ferocity.

His notoriety eventually led to mercenary work, and eventually full-blown adventuring.  Quick to anger, slow to trust, Freek's one friend is the son of a noble, a young wizard named Garth.  Though a promise of gold and the opportunity to smash heads are all that interests Freek, he will put aside his own needs to aid Garth whenever the circumstance demands it.

He was a fairly quick paint job and I'm pretty happy with him.  I'm excited to have a painted mini for my own character and I'm slowly building confidence to painting my first character, Artemis Moonglow, who I've been playing for nearly two years and spent a decent dollar getting a custom HeroForge mini of.  Maybe I'll get around to painting Artemis before his character is retired... or is finally killed.

Next time I'll get around to showing off those winter monsters I promised last week.
